Abstract
This chapter moves the action to the west to look at a regiment of the U.S. 25th Infantry Division as it conducts an assault crossing of the Hant'an River as part of the final operation before the enemy launched its spring offensive. After reaching Phase Line Kansas, the I Corps' 25th Infantry Division prepared to continue the advance when Operation Dauntless was launched. The 25th Division would open the new offensive with an assault crossing of the Hant'an River followed by a thrust toward the Iron Triangle area. During the day's fighting, Company B of the 89th Tank Battalion provided close support for the 1st Battalion. During the night the 1st Battalion prepared to resume the attack the next day. The plan was for Company A to lead the assault, followed by Company B, with Company C remaining on the low ground. With the Chinese defenses along the Hant'an finally broken, the 24th Infantry Regiment continued its advance slowly to the north in step with other units of the 25th Infantry Division toward the objectives for Operation Dauntless.
