Abstract
This chapter deals with the Iranian strategic offensive in Khuzestan in the first half of 1982, and the Iraqi army retreat to the international border as a result of the Iranian successes in this offensive. It describes the attacks launched by the Iranians against the Iraqi forces deployed in Khuzestan and their consequences, the crossing of the Karun river by the Iranian forces and the failure of the Iraqi intelligence to give an early warning to the forces about the coming attacks. the loose of the Iraqi gains in this area, including the town of Khorramshahr, and the decision of the Iraqi leadership to withdraw the Iraqi forces to the international border.
