Abstract

A severe needle phobia exhibited by a 5-year-10-month-old cardiac patient in need of intensive antibiotic therapy was eliminated in three sessions of in vivo participant modeling combined with hypnosis. Medical staff were instructed as to how to carry out the hypnotic procedure. Follow-ups at 18, 20, and 24 months after treatment revealed neither the recurrence of the needle phobia nor the appearance of other problematic behaviors.
