In the article, “ Avian Hosts of Ixodes pacificus (Acari: Ixodidae) and the Detection of Borrelia burgdorferi in Larvae Feeding on the Oregon Junco,” by S. A. Wright, J. R. Tucker, A. M. Donohue, M. B. Castro, K. L. Kelley, M. G. Novak, and P. A. Macedo, published in July 2011, 48(4): 852–859 (DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.1603/ME11001), authors revise their statement in the Abstract that this is the first report of Borrelia burgdorferi in larvae on a North American bird since Morshad et al. (2005) identified a positive Ixodes scapularis from a common yellowthroat, Geothlypis trichas L., from Nova Scotia. More accurately theirs is the detection of B. burgdorferi ss in an Ixodes pacificus larvae feeding on a Junco hyemalis L., in western North America. Also their statement in the discussion that an Oregon junco was collected with B. burgdorferi s.l.-infected I. scapularis was mistaken since Scott et al. (2010) reported the infection was in Ixodes auritulus, a western tick species on the Oregon junco. Authors thank an observant reader for calling attention to these inaccuracies.*
