LECTURER PROFILE
Keizo Takemi is a Liberal Democratic Party member of the Japanese House of Councilors, serving his fourth term. In the first Abe cabinet, he was Senior Vice Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare. He is a senior fellow at the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE), a fellow at the Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation, a professor of political science and economics at Tokai University, and a visiting professor of various universities including Nagasaki University School of Medicine and Fukushima Medical University. He was also a research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health from November 2007 to June 2009.
In the global health field, he has been involved in various global initiaitves, including the Commission on Information and Accountability for Women's and Children's Health (2010–11); Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) (2010–present), as a champion; World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Working Group on R&D Financing (2009–10); the International Organizing Committee of the Prince Mahidol Award Conference (2009–present) and the Japan–World Bank Partnership Program for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), as a co-chair of the coordination committee (2012–present). He became the chair of the Parliamentary Caucus on Stop TB Partnership in March 2013.
