Image showing the histopathology of murine lungs 42 days after intravenous infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Numerous inflammatory cells are observed throughout the alveoli, resulting in extensive inflammatory damage to the surrounding tissue. This stands in contrast to a lack of inflammation in the central nervous system (CNS) during such an infection in a murine model of CNS tuberculosis. (See Be et al., on pp. 1520 – 8.)
