Abstract
This chapter offers reflections on the development of a personal teaching toolkit in care pedagogy, acquired through physical and mental trauma and recovery. These tools—teaching from a space of radical honesty, providing flexible accommodations, and offering opportunities for the practice of vulnerability in group work—make manifest simple but profound lessons: in sum, we must care for ourselves and for our students to be effective pedagogues. Taking care to teach, learn, and embody such compassionate wisdom is ever more crucial to identifying and upholding the most important reasons why we do what we do as academics and professors.
