New e-book on dictionary use by Herbert Andreas Welker

A new e-book has been made available free of charge by the author, Herbert Andreas Welker. The book is titled Dictionary Use: A General Survey of Empirical Studies and is an updated English version of Welker's earlier monograph, published in 2006 under the title O Uso De Dicionários: Panorama Geral Das Pesquisas Empíricas (reviewed in IJL 20.4). The volume aims to present a comprehensive picture of the available empirical studies in the area of dictionary use. Some of the studies benefit from the author's critical comments, while for others only original abstracts are reproduced. The treatment is thus not consistent, but this is not a serious problem for the book being consulted as a work of reference by students, researchers or practicing lexicographers. The updated version was published as an English translation in an effort to make it more accessible to readers with various language backgrounds. The open e-book format puts it within easy reach of researchers and students alike, some of whom would not have been able to afford a printed copy. The book can be downloaded from the author's web page at the following location: http://www.let.unb.br/hawelker/dictionary_use_research.pdf
