Genetics of Bacteria
Classical genetic analyses of bacteria have made numerous and profound contributions to both fundamental and applied science. From early studies on gene regulation and the nature of horizontal gene transfer, through to the recent discovery and harnessing of CRISPR, bacterial genetics continues to yield important advances. Genetic and molecular studies on DNA replication, transcription, genome stability, and mutagenesis have provided insights into essential cellular and evolutionary processes.
This series will highlight recent genetic and genomic work that leverages both classical and innovative genetic approaches in the study of bacterial genetics.

Genetic Models of Rare Diseases
Genes and variants of interest in rare diseases often benefit from modelling in cellular assays or genetic models to aid in understanding molecular and cellular mechanisms of disfunction. Model organisms are useful for the discovery of new genetic diseases and key to understanding variant effects, and modelling a disease gene in a genetic model means that researchers can perform an in-depth exploration of gene or variant function. The GSA Journals are pleased to publish a series highlighting ongoing advances in rare disease discovery and mechanisms by presenting key research findings and new discoveries.
