Abstract
This article examines the treatment of association psychology in Moritz's Anton Reiser. First, an attempt is made to provide a context for the subsequent reading of Anton Reiser by exploring Moritz's views on the association of ideas in his Vorlesungen über den Stil. Interpretation of Anton Reiser then focuses on the relationship of association psychology to two characteristic aspects of Anton's experiencing: his episodic self-experience; and his lack of freedom, both psychological and actual.
