Abstract
This chapter examines the linguistic and discursive construction of access to the healthcare system by transgender and disabled people in Colombian media. The study shows that Colombian media relies on spectacular and porn inspirational figures that conceal the role of the Neoliberal and Necropolitical State in debilitating the healthcare system and, therefore, the lives of trans and disabled individuals in the country. The chapter begins by characterizing the current healthcare system of Colombia. Secondly, it explores the representation of access to healthcare by trans and disabled people in the Colombian press. This exploratory qualitative study sheds light on how the Colombian digital press has portrayed this issue, as it has been underexplored from an intersectional approach. The chapter closes by reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on trans and disabled individuals. Thus, this chapter contributes to the intersection between transness, dis/ability, and media in Latin America.
