If you have not already done so, now is the time to register for the 16th WONCA World Conference and also the time to make your booking for travel to Durban, South Africa. WONCA 2001 promises to be the best WONCA World Conference yet. The dates are 13–17 May 2001 but I am sure that you will want either to come early or stay late to experience the natural beauty of this area and to visit one of the wild game parks for which South Africa is famous. Durban is a city of more than one million population and is known as a holiday paradise. It is a coastal city on the Indian Ocean with beautiful beaches. Many of the hotels are on the beaches which are just a short distance from the outstanding convention hall where the conference will be held.
The theme of the conference is ‘Family Medicine —The Leading Edge’. There will be keynote addresses, plenary sessions, small group sessions and many posters and there will be a rural practice day. Most of the WONCA Working Parties and Special Interest Groups will meet in Durban giving you an opportunity to participate in these meetings. A very special event will be the Global Call for Action on Tobacco Cessation. So you can see that there certainly will be something for everyone during this conference.
