Topic: Sports cardiology
Purpose: QTC interval prolongation is present in adult athlete's heart and has a strong correlation to left ventricle hypertrophy (LVH). On the other hand, in early stage of physiological athlete's heart remodeling there is no LVH, but left ventricle dilatation. the objective of this article is to assess whether LVD due to physical training has correlation with QTc duration in teenage professional football players.
Methods: 94 teenage football players aged 12.85 (0.84), range 12–14 years were screened by ECG and echocardiography at a tertiary referral cardio centre. they were from national professional soccer Premier League (at least 7 training hours/week). Control group consisted of 47 age-matched healthy volunteers with sedentary life style (less then 2 training hours/week). All athletes and volunteers from control group had no symptoms, none of them had syncope and physical findings were normal. QTc values and left ventricle dimensions were compared in these two groups.
