Being honest, I was not really looking forward to another online conference, but in the days before the meeting, I got excited. The program was full of innovative and interactive sessions. Just some examples:

How to successfully publish: meet the experts

Editors of the European and the American Journals of Cardiovascular Nursing discussed the dos and the don’ts when writing an article, where you must think of when you submit your article and how the review process is in the journals. The session was interactive, where all questions asked in the chat gave great discussions.

Take-home messages:

‘Read the author instructions’—Debra Moser

‘Take a rejection as a new submission’—David Thompson

‘If you review an article, be kind’—Todd Ruppar

‘Don’t take reviewers comments personal’—Victoria Dickson

‘Before submission, have a plan B’—Anna Strömberg

‘Never give up on a paper’—Tiny Jaarsma

Practical session: tele-yoga and mindfulness in cardiovascular care

In this session, Anna Strömberg presented an online yoga and Marie Lundberg gave a yoga session to the participants. Willie Horton gave a presentation on mindfulness and helped us to relax with a short meditation.

We had amazing ‘panel discussions’. There was a great panel discussion with ‘new frontiers in hypertension’. Where Thomas Kahan, Dylan Burger, Anastasia Mihailidou, John Mcevoy, Vikas Kapil, and Empar Lurbe among others discussed the sex differences in hypertension. Another inspiring panel discussion was among ‘experts in digital revolutions in cardiovascular care’. In this panel, Robyn Gallagher, Lis Neubeck, Jeroen Hendriks, Juhi Tandon, Martin Cowie, and Julie Redfern discussed the opportunity and challenges in digital health. Martin Cowie is very enthusiastic about remote monitoring and tele-consultations, but pointed out the importance of health literacy, digital literacy, and digital communication. One conclusion of the discussion was that the key is co-design with patients and health care professionals.

‘The ESC patient forum’ was involved in the program. One cardiac patient Dan Fordager gave a presentation about the role and the influence of patients in cardiovascular care and research. He is involved in grant applications (both as co-applicant as a grader), helped with data for a PhD application and is involved as a trainer in communication at the nursing education. Another great feature was the ‘informative videos attached to the poster presentations’.

Due to the EuroHeartCare Twitter ambassadors and the communication with them and colleagues on social media during the conference, it really felt to be connected. A big thank for our EuroHeartCare Twitter ambassadors during the conference:

I am looking forward to future hybrid events, where we can meet in person again, but also to increase the reach online, gain more attendees, and have great interaction. If you are an ACNAP Silver member you can see all the sessions of EuroHeartCare on demand.

Safe the date: the next ACNAP conference is planned on the 9th till the 11th of June.
