The move towards multimodality imaging

The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) was created in 2013 by merging the European Association of Echocardiography with the ESC Working Groups on Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) and Nuclear Cardiology (NC) & Cardiac Computed Tomography (CT). Because for the best patient care several imaging modalities are often required, it was a logical step to move from several ‘modality-oriented’ entities to a unified ‘patient-oriented’ association.

The current EACVI Board (2016–2018) is composed of 24 members. It is for me a great opportunity to work together with the President-Elect Thor Edvardsen, the Past-President Gilbert Habib, the Vice-Presidents: Erwan Donal (Chair, Echo Section), Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci (Chair, CMR Section), Oliver Gämperli (Chair, NC/Cardiac CT Section), and with all the other Board members.

One of the main priorities of our Board was to complete the transformation towards a multimodality Association continuing the work started by previous Presidents: Luigi Badano, Patrizio Lancellotti, and Gilbert Habib. This transformation entails the need to develop new multimodality imaging (MMI) projects in our main fields of activity.
