Contents

Our Oxford Handbook of Mental Health and Contemporary Western Aesthetics has many fathers and mothers to whom we owe our gratitude. One very special obstetrician, without whom our project would never have been realized, must be explicitly acknowledged here. We are specially indebted to Bill Fulford, the mastermind of the international movement of philosophy and psychiatry. Bill Fulford not only prepared the ground on which this project could flourish by establishing the Collaborating Centre for Values-based Practice in Health and Social Care at St Catherine’s College in Oxford which hosts the Aesthetics in Mental Health Network (AiMH), to which the majority of the editors of our handbook belong, but also continuously acted as a good, wise, and experienced obstetrician during the entire process so that our publication could finally see the light of day. Dear Bill, we express our sincere gratitude and our full appreciation for all this!

On 30 November 2018, parts of the editorial team met another supporter who also deserves great thanks, Senior Commissioning Editor Martin Baum, at the magnificent headquarters of Oxford University Press. Thank you, Martin, for accompanying our project and for the freedom you granted us in terms of content and your practical wisdom that enabled us to take a stand on critical voices!

Senior Project Editor Jade Dixon was a constant help and support in practical questions of detail. A special thanks, dear Jade!

Last but definitely not least, we would like to thank our sixty-two authors, who worked diligently on their contributions across four continents and thus made our project possible in the first place. Dear authors, many sincere thanks for your great dedication and wonderful contributions!
