Abstract

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy and a growing research area. This handbook begins with the theoretical and conceptual work that informs ACT, including theory and basic science. Several articles then cover the main treatment components and process of change for ACT, including psychological flexibility and the six ACT processes of change. Other, multiple articles cover the use of ACT with major disorders, problem areas, unique settings, and populations. Lastly, future directions for ACT, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and contextual behavioral science (CBS) are presented. The overall aim of this book is to provide an updated comprehensive overview of ACT and its CBS foundations.
