Abstract
In this chapter, Asbjørn Grønstad and Øyvind Vågnes invoke Greil Marcus’s aesthetic imaginary of “the old weird America” and the literary trope “the Southern Gothic” in order to explore the elusive identity of Southern music and culture, and the multiple ways the performative rockumentary engages with the South.
