Abstract
The undertaking of a community asset assessment provides an excellent mechanism for reaching and engaging undervalued communities in the United States. The use of youths as interviewers represents an untapped “natural” resource that schools and youth organizations do not consider. This article describes a community asset assessment that used Puerto Rican adolescents as interviewers; involving youths in such an undertaking offers much promise, but it is not without challenges.
