This color lithograph is an illustration of a culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It appeared in La Tuberculose et son Bacile by Isidore Strauss (1845 – 1896), published in 1895. Robert Koch had reported his seminal discovery of the tubercule bacillus in 1882, including the description of this method for propagating the organism. The artist is unknown.
