Margaret A. Boden is Professor of Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Sussex, and a Fellow of the British Academy. She is interested in the philosophy of mind, psychology, and AI/A-Life. Her work is highly interdisciplinary, reflecting her own academic background: she holds independent qualifications in medical sciences, philosophy, and psychology. Her first two books were Purposive Explanation in Psychology (1972) and Artificial Intelligence and Natural Man (1977/87); and the two latest are The Creative Mind: Myths and Mechanisms (1990) and Dimensions of Creativity (ed.) (1994). She is now writing a history of cognitive science.
Susantha Goonatilake was trained in electrical engineering and in sociology. Among his books are Merged Evolution: The Long Term Implications of Information Technology and Biotechnology (1999) and Evolution of Information: Lineages in Genes, Culture and Artefact (1992). He is presently attached to the Center for Studies of Social Change, New School for Social Research, New York.
