Abstract
Had this been a ‘limited war’ in the style of the 18th century, governments might, by 1915, have declared a truce and negotiated a compromise peace. However, the war had escalated outside the control of the original belligerents and was now beyond any single nation's power to end. 1915 saw conflict spread to Turkey and colonies across the globe. Italy, too, was drawn in and there were a number of indecisive naval confrontations between the British and German fleets. ‘1915: The War Continues’ assesses this geographic expansion, as well as the effective stagnation of the Western and Eastern Fronts.
