Abstract
This chapter details the special investigative techniques within Article 20 of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC). Special investigative techniques may be extremely useful when law enforcement agencies struggle to infiltrate organized criminal groups and gather information about their organization. Article 20 promotes the use of special investigative techniques to uncover, investigate, and prosecute organized crime more effectively under the condition that the use of these techniques does not infringe on basic principles of the domestic legal system. The chapter mentions the basis of Article 20 of the Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. It considers the use of special investigative techniques at the domestic level.
