The workshop this volume emerged from was particularly sponsored by the Volkswagen–Stiftung, which generously contributed to the travel and accommodation expenses of many participants. Additional support originated in the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft through the latter's Graduiertenkolleg Logik in der Informatik at Munich, whose speaker, Helmut Schwichtenberg, showed a lot of interest from the beginning. Local logistic assistance was provided by the Venice International University staff, and a helping hand often came from the participants of the workshop.
Angus Macintyre established our contacts with the publisher, and Alison Jones from Oxford University Press sometimes needed to be patient with us. We are indebted to Douglas Bridges, Andrea Cantini, Michael Rathjen, and Giuseppe Rosolini for their respective advices on editorial matters. Editing this book would have been impossible without the technical assistance by Júlia Zappe. Last but not least, we are most grateful to the authors and anonymous referees, without whose respective contributions this volume would not have emerged.
