Abstract
The determination of tin in biological materials was investigated by using a flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometer. A detection limit of 0.04 ng Sn could be achieved by ashing, reduction of coexisting Fe(III) to Fe(II), MIBK extraction, and AAS. When the organotin compound, tributyltin chloride, was administered to mice, large amounts of tin were found in the brains and only small amounts in the bones. On the other hand, when an identical dose of an inorganic compound such as stannous chloride was administered, large amounts were found in the bones and bone marrow cells and only small amounts in the brains.
