Abstract
This chapter tells the story of Ajax from four different points of view: Odysseus, King Agamemnon, Ajax's wife Tecmessa, and the old counselor Nestor. It asks whether any of them could have done something to prevent the loss of Ajax. It details Odysseus's reflections about how the army destroyed his friendship with Ajax; Agamemnon's belief that he did everything right; Tecmessa's concern for her husband; and Nestor's fondness for Ajax.
