Abstract
The Partido Conservador sought to monopolize social Catholic activism for most of the 1920s, impeding the emergence of a social Catholic political alternative, but nevertheless a new generation emerged to challenge the Conservative hold over social action. The chapter follows the organization of the Asociación de Estudiates Católicos by the priest Oscar Larson. One of his most famous disciples was Eduardo Frei, who became president of Chile in the 1960s. Moreover, the social and political activities of other young Catholics such as Clotario Blest are described, who endeavoured to found a social Christian alternative to the Partido Conservador.
