Extract
Part One begins with a biography where an attempt has been made to answer a question that have intrigued many: how much formal economics was Leo exposed to as a student and who were the luminaries who likely influenced his thinking? Ken Arrow’s eulogy to his lifelong friend and intellectual companion is augmented by a postscript, a tribute from 1977 when Leo was elected a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association. Eric Maskin, Tom Marschak, and Roy Radner speak of their experiences in working with him. A final humorous tribute comes from Paul Samuelson, a letter he wrote on the occasion of Leo’s ninetieth birthday in 2007.
