Abstract
This chapter discusses geographical epidemiology and ecological studies. Geographical epidemiology is defined as the description of spatial patterns of disease incidence and mortality. Ecological studies describe the relationship between the frequency of disease and the level of exposure to a particular agent. Types of geographical studies, potential problems in the interpretation of geographical studies, geographical data presentation, and strengths and weaknesses of ecological studies are discussed.
