The inflammatory process
Inflammation is part of the body's reaction to harm. This harm could be caused by a variety of things, such as bacteria and viruses (infection), trauma, or other irritants. Inflammation assists with the healing and repair of any damage caused to the body. Without this inflammatory response, wounds and infections would never heal.
Inflammation is a very complex process, which has to be well controlled by the body. If this control is lost or doesn't work properly, the body can be at risk of disease.
Inflammation is classified into 2 types—acute and chronic.

Periodontal diseases
Periodontology is the branch of dentistry concerned with the prevention and treatment of diseases involving the periodontal tissues. In general, periodontal diseases are infections caused by an accumulation of plaque around the gingival margin. Unlike dental caries, periodontal disease is caused by the plaque microbes that feed and multiply on any food debris found in the mouth.
