Abstract
This chapter discusses the activities, cognitive development, and learning progress of Ricky when he was between 25–26 months old. At this stage, the toddler displayed new ways of using language to express his recently acquired social and cognitive knowledge. He showed some sophistication with the forms of the language but his grammar seemed to be remarkably primitive. The speech he directed to his toys and animals showed that he recognized that different social roles call for different kinds of language.
