The role, nature, and understanding of social work in international contexts are a topic of growing significance in an increasingly connected yet fragmented world. The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has underlined the importance of the social work profession and its contribution to international and transnational agendas.
This book is the third edition of a text by two scholars from Connecticut University. It represents a comprehensive overview of the subject and its contextual settings, with case examples, potted histories and useful references. The publication is organised under four main headings: the context of international social work: concepts, issues and organizations; the profession internationally; international social work: values, practice and policy; and strengthening international social work: strategies and challenges. An extensive range of topics is covered: theories and concepts underpinning international social work; global social issues; international social welfare organisations and their functions; international exchange of social work learning; values and ethics for international professional action; and international relief and development practice.
