This book is based on the author’s own experiences in social work and social work education, and the experiences of other Social Workers, which makes it an authentic and credible read.

The chapters are taken from published articles, written by the author in the British Journal of Social Work and Practice, Social Work in Action and a book chapter. As the author states in the introductory pages, the main purpose of this book is to make the reader think about a ‘world in which Social Worker’s not only survive, but flourish and thrive’ (Collins, 2019). A refreshing and encouraging perspective in a world of increasing demands and stressors on the social work profession. It is this optimistic attitude that underpins the theories, ideas and concepts addressed in each chapter of the book, nine in total. The title of the book The Positive Social Worker says it all, the focus of each chapter is on positivity, although the author does present a balanced view of the nature of social work.
