I am grateful to Drs. Bewley and Cullen (1985) for their comments on my paper (Astor, 1984).
The most important point to make is that regardless of the manner in which the OER is calculated, the basic conclusion of the paper remains unchanged, namely, that only one cell line GM3877 exhibits a reduction in the OER, and that this line has an extremely low GSH level. The OER values suggested by Drs. Bewley and Cullen are not significantly different from those quoted in the paper.
