Rook's Textbook Of Dermatology ( 2004) Seventh Edition. Eds Tony Burns, Stephen Breathnach, Neil Cox, Christopher Griffiths. Blackwell Publishing, Oxford. Hardback. ISBN 0632064293.‘Rook’ has reached its 7th Edition and has re‐emerged comprehensively and impressively revised, refreshed and reinvigorated. The dedication and diligence of a revised editorial team and the many new contributing authors have maintained all that was good in previous editions, while applying the necessary scalpel, laser and botox® to bring the text accurately up‐to‐date. This remains the most comprehensive reference text available to the practising dermatologist.
The four‐volume text maintains its familiar layout with the initial chapters covering the themes of basic cutaneous biology, epidemiology, pathology and clinical diagnosis. A totally revised chapter on molecular biology is valuable in view of the impact these techniques have had, not only on our understanding and classification of dermatological disease but also increasingly on the therapy or potential therapy available. Subsequent chapters cover specific dermatological diseases or groups of related disorders. ‘AIDS and the Skin’ is a brand new chapter in this edition reflecting the distinctive character and importance of this subgroup of patients within dermatology. The final chapters deal with dermatological disease as its affects specific body sites, racial and age‐related aspects of skin disease and the full range of topical, systemic and physical therapies employed.
