We thank Dr Won Lee for his comments 1 and information he provided about the possible overlap of cases between the 3 articles: “Iatrogenic Occlusion of the Ophthalmic Artery After Cosmetic Facial Filler Injections: A National Survey by the Korean Retina Society” by Park et al,2 “Ophthalmoplegia as a Complication of Cosmetic Facial Filler Injection” by Kim et al,3 and “The Classification and Prognosis of Periocular Complications Related to Blindness Following Cosmetic Filler Injection” by Myung et al.4 Dr Lee highlights that the 3 reports were written by researchers in different departments of the same hospital and so the possibility of overlap between the cases exists.

When we reviewed these papers, published in 2014,2 2016,3 and 2017,4 respectively, limited demographic data were included to confirm any overlap between the cases being reported. However, learning that they were published from the same institution, but different departments, introduces possible redundancy between the cases. Dr Lee did reach out to the authors to request more detailed information to further evaluate for overlap. This example underscores the challenge with interpreting published literature, particularly when there is limited demographic information reported. We should all strive to hold ourselves to a high standard when reporting and peer-reviewing cases to ensure that all relevant details are included, and authors should do their best to document whether their cases have been previously published.
