As a practicing Physician Assistant (PA) for the past 34 years, I have taken and passed the PA recertification exam five times. I have worked in the subspecialty of plastic surgery for the past 30 years, so the experience from which I draw is a bit narrow within the scope of knowledge required for passing the recertification exam. The majority of questions on the exam likely apply readily to the experience of a PA for a general or family practice. The number of questions that I answer related to my specific subspecialty is limited, to say the least. Also, the farther I get from my original training, the less I am able to recall and the more things change. With all of this in mind, the need for a high-quality, comprehensive review of current medical practices relevant to the PA is clear. James Van Rhee, MS, PA-C, set out to fill this gap in the literature with Review of Physician Assistant Board Review: Certification and Recertification.
