This book, Partial Breast Reconstruction: Techniques in Oncoplastic Surgery, is the first of its kind. As such, it completes the spectrum of key publications on breast reconstructive surgery. The ultimate desired outcome of breast reconstructive surgery is always to provide the best disease control in concert with excellent aesthetics. With this in mind, larger partial mastectomy resections have been combined with partial mastectomy reconstruction, leading to the field of oncoplastic surgery. The concept of oncoplastic surgery has previously been more readily embraced in Europe, but now is making its way into the forefront of North American surgical culture. This text, edited by Drs. Albert Losken and Moustapha Hamdi, provides a balanced perspective on European and North American viewpoints, covering all aspects of partial breast reconstructive surgery. The contributing authors are leaders in their respective fields, sharing their clinical experiences and critically reviewing the literature. The book is extremely easy to read and the information is simple to follow as a whole, while each chapter also stands well on its own as a specific reference. Topics include incorporation of oncoplastic surgery in one’s practice, decision making, oncologic safety issues, anticipating radiotherapy effects, timing and design of the operation, complications and outcomes, postoperative cancer surveillance, and outcomes after tumor recurrence.
