The cover image shows the inflorescence of Lophophytum mirabile, growing in Parque Nacional Calilegua (Jujuy, Argentina). Only the staminate flowers can be seen above the soil level; female flowers are located below them. In this issue of Annals of Botany, Sanchez-Puerta et al. review the evolution of plastid and mitochondrial genomes of this plant across the 12 independent parasitic lineages, unraveling convergent and unique traits.
