The inset cover shows a male inflorescence of banana (Musa acuminata) being pollinated by bees. Cultivated banana are natural inter-(sub-)specific hybrids selected by humans centuries ago. Martin and collaborators characterized the parental relationships of banana cultivars through a whole genome approach. They showed that current cultivars resulted from different types of reduced or unreduced gametes mainly generated by diploid or triploid cultivated parents. The diploid cultivar Mchare is shown to have transmitted its complete unrecombined genome to the main triploid dessert bananas currently grown. [See Martin et al. pp. 1149–1161.
