Cover illustration: The inset cover image shows pollination of Erica plukenetii ssp. breviflora by the moth Helicoverpa armigera in the Cape floral kingdom of South Africa. The flowers produce a strong scent, and the length of their tubes match the length of the moth tongues. Other subspecies of E. plukenetii have unscented, long-tubed flowers pollinated by sunbirds with long beaks. See Van der Niet et al. (pp. 199-211).
