Modelling axis organogenesis in grapevine
doi:10.1093/aob/mcq173
Pallas et al. (pp. 729–745) construct three plant growth models to improve the modelling of grapevine development and axis organogenesis in fluctuating environments; one is based on thermal time, whilst the other two use GreenLab as the starting point. They find that potential organogenesis appears to be driven by temperature, whereas meristem activity depends on trophic competition. Water deficit is found to modify axis organogenesis independently of assimilate deficiency.

A functional–structural kiwifruit vine model
doi:10.1093/aob/mcq180
Overcoming the vigorous growth of kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) vines in order to channel carbohydrates into fruit is a major challenge for growers. To help improve management techniques and to provide insights into the mechanisms of vine development, Cieslak et al. (pp. 747–764) present a model using the L-system platform that integrates 3-D architecture, carbon transport and allocation, and environmental and management effects on growth.
