Evaluation of foliar-applied insecticides on redbanded stinkbug on infested soybean yield, 2022 Open Access

On 9 Sep 2022, redbanded stink bug insecticide efficacy trials were conducted at Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS, to evaluate 9 insecticides compared to an untreated control. Plot size was 4 rows wide by 40 feet in length on 40-inch centers. Field studies were implemented as a randomized complete block with replications. All plots received applications with a MUDMASTER, 4WD Multi-Purpose Sprayer (Bowman manufacturing, Newport, AR) equipped with a multi-boom calibrated to deliver 10 gallons per acre at 50 PSI utilizing TX-6 Hollow Cone nozzles (TeeJet Technologies, Glendale, IL). The treatments included the following: Warrior II, Brigade 2EC, Endigo ZCX, Orthene 90S, Leverage 360, Wrangler 4F, and Baythroid XL. Redbanded stink bug populations were evaluated at 2, 7, and 14 days after application (DAA) by taking 25 sweeps per plot, using a standard sweep net. Yield was taken from the center 2 rows utilizing a plot combine. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, and means were separated using Fisher’s protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).

At 2 DAA, all foliar-applied treatments had significantly lower redbanded stink bug populations when compared with the untreated control (Table 1). By 7 and 14 DAA, no significant difference was observed between all treatments. At harvest, no yield differences between treatments were observed (Table 1).¹
