On 28 Jul 2023, an insecticide efficacy trial was conducted at the Delta Research and Experiment Station in Stoneville, Mississippi, to evaluate 14 insecticides compared to 2 untreated checks for the control of tarnished plant bugs (TPB). Plot size was 4 rows wide (40-inch centers) and 40 feet in length. The trial was set up as an RCB with 4 replications of treatments. Insecticide applications were made with a high-clearance sprayer with a compressed-air spray system calibrated to deliver 10 gpa through TX-6 hollow cone nozzles (2/row). TPB densities were monitored on 31 Jul, 4 Aug, and 8 Aug (3, 7, and 11 DAT) by taking 2 drops using a black drop cloth in the center of 2 rows of each plot. Adult and nymph densities were combined for analysis. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, and means were separated using Fisher’s Protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).

At 3 and 7 DAT, all treated plots except for PQZ 1.83 SC had significantly lower TPB populations compared to the untreated checks (Table 1). At 11 DAT, Transform WG, Orthene 90S at 1.1 lb., Imidacloprid 4F + Orthene 90S at 0.77 lb., Brigade 2EC + Orthene 90S at 0.77 lb., Diamond 0.83EC, Plinazolin SC, and Torac 1.29SC were lower than both untreated checks, PQZ 1.87SC, and Imidacloprid 4F. However, these same treatments were not different from Vydate 3.77EC, Orthene 90S at 0.77lb., Bidrin 8EC, or Carbine 50WG.1
