Selected insecticide treatments were evaluated for control of stink bugs in rice at Lee Farm in Hayward, MO, which is the field location for the Fisher Delta Research Center. Rice was planted in 23 May. The test was arranged in an RCB design with four replicates. Individual plots were 6.33 × 18 ft, and planted at a rate of 70 pounds per acre. Treatments were applied with a high clearance sprayer calibrated to deliver 10.8 gpa at 32 psi with 80,015 flat fan nozzles. Foliar application was made in 26 Jul. Plots were sampled with a standard 15 in sweep net, beginning near heading. On each date, 10 sweep samples, five sweeps per row, were taken from the center two rows of the four row plots. Both adults and juveniles were combined for a total insect count. Insect control was evaluated in 29 Jul, 3 days after treatment (3 DAT), 8 Aug (10 DAT), 15 Aug (17 DAT), and 22 Aug (22 DAT). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and means were separated using a protected LSD.

All insecticide treatments significantly (P < 0.05) lowered the total number of rice stink bugs compared with the untreated check at each evaluation date (Table 1). All insecticide treatments also reduced the number of rice stink bugs compared with the untreated check at all evaluations (Table 1). At 3 DAT and 10 DAT, Endigo ZC, Mustang Max, Endigo ZCX, and Tenchu were significantly more effective than Karate Z at 1.6 oz or 2.56 oz rates. Reductions in rice stink bugs were significantly greater with Endigo ZC and Endigo ZCX than other treatments at 17 DAT and 22 DAT. No phytotoxicity was observed with any treatment. This research was partially supported by industry gifts of pesticide and seed.
