Cotton aphid is a vector of citrus tristeza virus in citrus. A field trial was conducted in a 6-yr-old ‘Tango’ mandarin block at the Lindcove Research and Extension Center, Exeter, CA. Insecticides were applied using a 100-gal high-pressure D30 diaphragm pump sprayer with mechanical agitation at 200 psi in 100 gal of water per acre. Foliar treatments were applied on 17 Mar 2016. Treatments were assigned to 10 individual trees per treatment in a RCB on 16 Mar based on pretreatment aphid counts and post-treatment sampling was conducted weekly for 3 wk. On all sampling dates, the number of aphid-infested terminals out of 25 terminals randomly selected from around the tree were counted. The mean numbers of infested terminals were compared using ANOVA with means separated according to Fisher’s LSD (P = 0.05) after log(x + 1) transformation of the data.

Assail and Sivanto significantly reduced the mean number of aphid-infested terminals compared to the untreated control for 1-wk post-treatment (Table 1). By week 2, the mean number of infested terminals in the treatments was not significantly different than the untreated control.

Means within a column followed by the same letter are not significantly different after log (x + 1) transformation of the data (LSD, P > 0.05). Untransformed means are listed.
