It is a great honor for me to receive the Donald E. Francke Medal today, the 4th of December, 2023, in Anaheim, California. I am indebted to the Board of Directors of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) for its action in bestowing this prestigious award. To be included among the now 28 Donald E. Francke medalists is a special honor for me. I want to share this recognition with colleagues all over the world who continue to support my career and have been instrumental in their efforts to help move many projects forward.
Dennis B. Worthen, in an article published in 2003, referred to Donald Eugene Francke (1910-1978) as a “reformer by nature, doer by necessity.”1 Although I did not have the good fortune to personally know Dr. Donald Eugene Francke and his dear wife, Dr. Gloria Niemeyer Francke, I hope to emulate both as a doer. The doer should be selfless and willing to serve the people.
