Objective: The current study seeks to examine the relationship between performance on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) with caregiver reports of driving abilities in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Method: A convenience sample of 49 patients with PD completed the MoCA and an informant completed the Record of Independent Living (ROIL) to obtain a rating of driving abilities. Results: A logistic regression showed that the total MoCA score was a poor predictor of driving abilities (z = -.94, p = .35). A logistic regression showed that the language (z = 2.62, p> .009) and memory (z = -3.01, p>.003) subscales were significant predictors of driving abilities based on caregiver reports. However, a cut point of 4 on the language subscale correctly classified 54.17% of patients as having driving difficulties with high sensitivity (95%), but low specificity (28.57%). Conclusion: Overall, this study demonstrates that the MoCA is not an adequate predictor of driving abilities in individuals with PD.
