PASJ Permissions Policy

1. As long as the number of items requested does not exceed the amount specified below, and as long as the request for reuse is for academic or educational purposes (including copyrighted material sold commercially), then permission is not required to reuse the items. Specified amount:

• Up to 3 tables and/or figs, 400 words of text per one paper
• Up to 5 tables and/or figs, 800 words of text per one issue

2. STM-affiliated organizations and publishers can reuse content as per the terms of the STM agreement, and for PASJ content, it is not necessary for permission to be requested for anything falling within this.
3. Permission is required in cases where the purpose of reuse is not academic or educational, or the number of items exceeds the amount specified in item (1), and where reuse falls outside the scope of the permissions guidelines in item (2) above.
4. PASJ only offers CC-BY licenses for authors opting to publish in the journal under an open access license. No request for permission is required for reuse (including reuse for commercial purposes) of material from OA papers, as long as the original publication source is credited in full. This includes reusing, adapting and distributing part or all of a paper.
5. Permission is not required for reuse of PASJ material in any other material produced by the Astronomical Society of Japan (eg. Astronomical Herald etc).
6. Whatever the purpose of reuse, the bibliographic information of the original source of the copyrighted material must be given clearly in all cases.
7. As a general rule, it is not necessary to seek permission directly from the author of the PASJ article.
