IDSA Family of Journals
The Journal of Infectious Diseases (JID) publishes bench-to-bedside or bedside-to-bench translational infectious diseases science—patient- and disease-focused research featuring a laboratory component. It provides a home for authors writing about mechanistic and translational research, seeking to put this research into context for clinical and experimental scientists as well as clinician readers. The editors welcome Major Articles and Brief Reports describing research results on microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, and related disciplines (e.g., AMR, microbiome) on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases; on the microbes that cause them; and on disorders of host immune responses. JID does not publish papers that focus on descriptive clinical science; phase 3 or 4 clinical trials focused on clinical outcomes; clinical review papers; or case reports lacking laboratory investigation support. Such papers may be a better fit for our sister journals, Clinical Infectious Diseases and Open Forum Infectious Diseases.
With an Impact Factor of 5.0, the journal is ranked 15 out of 132 journals in the field of infectious diseases.

Translational Infectious Diseases Science
JID publishes papers featuring bench-to-bedside or bedside-to-bench infectious diseases research, namely, patient- and disease-focused research engaging laboratory science.
Early-Stage or Laboratory-Focused Clinical Trials
JID publishes phase 1 and 2 trials of novel drugs, vaccines and diagnostics, as well as later-stage trials with a laboratory-focused outcome.
Global Health
JID publishes global health and field science research testing hypotheses, supported by laboratory science.
Perspectives
JID publishes Perspective manuscripts on evolving, controversial or emerging infectious diseases topics, along with more general Perspectives on career development within the infectious diseases field.

JID welcomes papers from early-career investigators, including infectious diseases fellows testing hypotheses (e.g., fellows working under K08, K23, or similar grants). The journal also welcomes authors from populations historically underrepresented in infectious diseases science and authors from low- and middle-income countries.
